Lower Moreland Trash Collection Guideline Reminders

• To ensure that your curbside materials (trash, recycling, and yard waste) will be collected, place trash curbside the night before, but no earlier than 6:00 p.m. Trucks will not return for materials placed curbside if the trucks have already passed by.

• All materials must be placed curbside, not in the street. • A limit of six trash cans, bundles, or bags is enforced.

• Containers should have securely fastened lids to prevent water or other debris from entering the container. The Township is charged by the amount of tonnage, which in turn determines trash fees.

• All empty containers must be removed from the curb on the same day of collection.

• Collection regulations will be strictly enforced and violators are subjects to fines and penalties.

Montgomery County retains AAA rating from Moody's for the sixth consecutive year.

The Montgomery County Commissioners have proudly announced that the county has achieved a remarkable feat—receiving a AAA bond rating with a stable outlook from Moody’s Investors Service for the sixth consecutive year.

Moody’s, in their credit opinion, outlined the reasons behind Montgomery County's continued recognition with the highest credit rating:

  1. Strong Financial Position: Montgomery County maintains a solid financial standing and carries a low debt burden. The county's thriving and expanding economy stands as a significant credit asset.

  2. Effective Governance: The county's governance is marked by prudence, with clear adherence to a formal fund balance policy, augmented pension contributions, and responsible property tax rate adjustments to ensure fiscal equilibrium.

  3. Robust Economy: With an approximate population of 850,000, the county is home to numerous major employers in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and finance. It boasts eight major hospitals and 21 institutions of higher education. Over the past decade, the county has experienced substantial population growth and an expanding tax base, rendering it an attractive community.

  4. Educated Workforce: Montgomery County exhibits a strong labor force participation rate of 68%, with over 50% of adult residents holding bachelor's degrees. The county reports commendable income metrics and a growing population.

  5. Debt Management: While the county plans to finance approximately two-thirds of its nearly $900 million 5-year capital budget through bonds, this expected increase in debt aligns well with Aaa-rated peers.

Starting pitchers for Phils - Games 1 and 2 of the NLWCS revealed

Aaron Nola is set to start Game 2 of the Wild Card Series for the Philadelphia Phillies. A day after securing the top Wild Card spot in the National League, Phillies manager Rob Thomson unveiled his plans for the first two games of the NLWCS.

Game 1 will see Zack Wheeler on the mound for the Phillies, provided he remains in good health. Wheeler boasts a record of 13-6 this season, with a 3.64 ERA and a 3.19 FIP over 188 innings pitched. The 33-year-old right-hander has been a standout performer among starting pitchers, leading the league with a 5.8 WAR this season, according to FanGraphs.

Wheeler will maintain his scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, which marks the final home game of the 2023 season. Meanwhile, Aaron Nola, after an impressive performance with eight strikeouts and allowing just one run over 6 2/3 innings on Tuesday, will not make another regular-season start. Instead, the 30-year-old will continue with his regular bullpen sessions in preparation for Game 2 of the NLWCS.

Can Eagles maintain their perfect record?

In week four, the Washington Commanders will visit the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles solidified their record with a flawless 3-0 performance, culminating in a 25-11 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. Once again, quarterback Jalen Hurts stood out, delivering a 34-yard touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus and scoring a one-yard rushing touchdown in the second half.

On the other hand, the Commanders suffered defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills in week three. Their primary concern revolves around safeguarding quarterback Sam Howell, whose statistics painted a grim picture. The 23-year-old faced an astonishing nine sacks and threw four interceptions, becoming the first QB to post such numbers since Warren Moon in 1995.

Eagles vs. Commanders. Sunday, October 1, Kick-off: 1 p.m.

Flyers Find Silver Linings Despite Preseason Losses

The Flyers displayed improved freshness and cohesion on Wednesday night as they entered their second preseason game. However, despite the better performance, the Flyers were defeated by the Islanders, losing 2-1 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Ryan Poehling managed to score the Flyers' lone goal with just 2 minutes and 22 seconds remaining in the game.

For the second consecutive game, AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley's head coach, Ian Laperriere, took the reins behind the bench for the Flyers. According to the same preseason plan as last year, the big club's assistant coaches will oversee the next two exhibition games, while head coach John Tortorella will assume control for the final two.

In the preseason, the Flyers currently hold a record of 0-2-0 and have been outscored 8-1. The Flyers showed a much more competitive spirit against the Islanders on Wednesday, but they only managed to score one goal late in the game when they pulled their netminder for an extra skater.
