Lower Moreland Township Police Seeking 42-Year-Old Felon for Possession Charges

The Lower Moreland Township Police Department is actively seeking Jonathan Karcher, a 42-year-old Philadelphia resident, on multiple charges. Karcher became a person of interest following an incident on September 25, when officers patrolling near Welsh Road in Huntingdon Valley observed a suspicious vehicle committing traffic violations. The vehicle had a tinted plate cover and fraudulent tags, which Karcher admitted to purchasing from Facebook Marketplace.

Karcher was unable to provide valid insurance, registration, or proof of ownership for the vehicle and was found to be driving with a suspended license. Additionally, the vehicle had fraudulent inspection stickers. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Karcher was in possession of drug paraphernalia, including controlled substances and scales, as well as stolen firearms.

Being a convicted felon previously found guilty of the same violation in 2019, Karcher is prohibited from possessing firearms. His current situation constitutes a felony of the first degree.

Farewell to Moss Mill Brewing: A Huntingdon Valley Staple Shuts Its Doors

Moss Mill Brewing Company, a family-owned business in Huntingdon Valley, is closing its doors after over five years of operation. Owners Nick and Evann Rodgers have announced the final day of operations slated for Sunday, December 31.

Since its opening in 2018, Moss Mill Brewing has enjoyed strong community support, becoming a cherished part of the neighborhood. The decision to close comes after the Rodgers took time to reflect on their personal lives and the needs of their growing children, leading to a tough but necessary choice.

The journey of Moss Mill Brewing has been filled with challenges, especially in the last several years. The owners expressed profound gratitude towards their dedicated staff, many of whom have been with the brewery since its inception. They also extended heartfelt thanks to the customers and Collaborator Club members who have supported them, emphasizing the impact of these relationships and the community's support on their lives.

As they prepare for the next chapter, the Rodgers hope to see their patrons one last time before the brewery closes. They have also hinted at special offerings as the closing date approaches, encouraging customers to stay updated through their social media channels. The closure of Moss Mill Brewing marks the end of a significant local enterprise and a heartfelt chapter for the Rodgers family and the Huntingdon Valley community.

PA Bill Proposes Highest Annual Fee for Electric Vehicles in the U.S

Pennsylvania is considering a bill that would introduce an annual fee for electric vehicle (EV) owners, potentially setting it as the highest in the United States. Senator Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) has proposed this bill, which aims to replace the alternative fuel tax on electric vehicles with a $290 yearly fee. The revenue generated from this fee would contribute to highway construction and maintenance projects across the state.

The rationale behind the bill, according to Senator Rothman, is to ensure that electric vehicle owners contribute their fair share to the state's transportation infrastructure. This contribution is akin to the fuel taxes paid by drivers of gasoline-powered vehicles. Rothman believes that this legislation will simplify the process and create a more equitable system for funding transportation infrastructure.

Today is…

December 13 marks National Ice Cream Day, a time to celebrate one of everyone's favorite treats, even if it's not the typical season for it. Unlike the other National Ice Cream Day in July, where the familiar melodies of ice cream trucks are a common sound, in December, these trucks are usually off the roads. Additionally, your go-to ice cream shop might be closed for the winter. Despite this, it's still a fantastic excuse to indulge in a pint (or three) of delicious ice cream to enjoy with friends and family. So, embrace the day and savor your favorite flavors, no matter the weather outside!

A Series on Managing The Holiday Season

TIP 43: Set Boundaries

During the holidays, remember that you have control over your own choices, not your relatives like your mom or father-in-law. It's crucial to set boundaries in advance for a smooth festive season. Consider your limits regarding travel (mode and duration), hosting guests (how long they can stay and if pets are allowed), spending (budget for gifts), food (what to eat and quantity), and handling conflicts. It's okay to say no to uncomfortable situations. Once you've made decisions, embrace them with a positive attitude and find joy in the experience. Prioritize your comfort and well-being in your holiday plans.

🏈 Eagles

Despite tying for the best record in football, the Philadelphia Eagles are facing considerable scrutiny following consecutive heavy losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. These defeats have raised questions about the team's true strength, even as they remain contenders for the NFC East title, with a potential No. 2 seed if they win their remaining games.

It's important to remember that this is a team that has achieved a remarkable 24 wins in their last 30 regular-season games and boasts a 27-5 record in games started by quarterback Jalen Hurts. These stats indicate that the Eagles haven't suddenly lost their prowess, but they do have notable areas of concern as the season heads into its final phase.

🏒 Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers narrowly lost to the Nashville Predators in overtime, 3-2, at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday, ending their four-game winning streak but extending their point streak to six games (4-0-2). Despite this, they secured five out of six possible points on their three-game road trip.

Nashville opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Gustav Nyquist, his fourth of the season, assisted by Alexandre Carrier and Filip Forsberg. The Predators then increased their lead in the second period with a goal by Michael McCarron, his fourth, with assists from Luke Schenn and Cole Smith.

🏀 Sixers

As the NBA trade season approaches, the Philadelphia 76ers are emerging as a key team to watch. With draft assets and expiring contracts acquired through the James Harden trade, General Manager Daryl Morey is well-equipped to make a significant move. With the trade deadline set for February 8th, Morey is expected to thoroughly explore options to strengthen the team ahead of the playoffs.

One of the most prominent names on the current trade market is Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls, an All-Star player attracting considerable attention. Recent reports from Shams Charania of The Athletic have linked the 76ers to potential interest in LaVine. However, the language used in these reports suggests that Morey and the 76ers’ front office are not aggressively pursuing a trade at this moment. Instead, it appears they are adopting a patient approach, possibly evaluating how LaVine could fit into their strategy and the overall dynamics of the team as the deadline draws nearer.
