Upper Moreland Police Investigate Strong-Arm Robberies, Issue Safety Tips

The Upper Moreland Police Department Detective Unit is issuing a community alert regarding a recent increase in strong-arm robberies in Upper Moreland Township. Strong-arm robberies are defined as thefts involving the use of a weapon or force. The department is actively investigating two such incidents that occurred earlier in the week.

While specific details about these incidents have not been released, the police department is urging residents to adopt certain precautionary measures to enhance their personal safety and minimize the risk of falling victim to similar crimes. These safety tips include:

  1. Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions like walking and texting, which can make you an easy target.

  2. Trust Your Instincts: If you feel something or someone is suspicious, don't hesitate to call 9-1-1. It's better to be cautious and alert authorities if you sense danger.

  3. Secure Your Belongings: Keep electronics, cash, credit cards, and other valuables secure in your purse or pocket when in public spaces.

  4. Be Mindful of Personal Items: While shopping, keep your purse in front of you or your wallet in your front pocket. Avoid leaving your purse on the back of a chair when dining out.

  5. Walk Confidently: Move with purpose and have your keys ready to quickly access your home or car.

176 New Townhomes Under Construction at Philmont Country Club

The Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley has embarked on an ambitious construction project to develop an active adult housing community. This significant development involves the construction of 176 townhouse units, signaling a notable expansion in the area's residential offerings.

Due to the construction, Tomlinson Road has been closed to general traffic, with the closure expected to last at least until December 22. This closure is necessary to facilitate the safe and efficient progress of the construction work.

Given the closure of Tomlinson Road, access to the Philmont Country Club will be affected. Individuals planning to visit the country club, especially for events, are advised to contact the club directly for guidance on the best entry routes. Depending on the day-to-day construction activities, the recommended access points, whether via Philmont Avenue or Buck Road, may change.

This townhouse project at the Philmont Country Club represents a significant addition to the local housing market, particularly for active adults seeking community living. The construction is a key part of the township's development and growth, offering new residential options within the community.

Santa’s Coming to Town: Lower Moreland’s Special Stops, This Saturday

The Lower Moreland community is gearing up for a festive celebration as Santa Claus makes his much-anticipated visit on Saturday, December 16th, starting at 11am. This year's event promises to bring the same joy and excitement as in previous years, with Santa and his friends distributing candy canes and spreading cheer throughout the area.

To ensure that community members have the best chance of seeing Santa, the event organizers recommend gathering at one of the designated stops, where Santa will be spending more time. There will be two stops in the northern part of the community and two in the south. The itinerary, to be released by NORAD, will provide detailed information about Santa's schedule.

Santa's visit will include the following stops (all times are approximate):

  • Santa North:

First Stop: La Voglia Restaurant lot, from 11:15 am to 11:45 am

Second Stop: Pine Road School, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm

  • Santa South:
First Stop: St Albert The Great, from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm

Second Stop: Pennypack trail parking lot, from 1:45 pm to 2:15 pm

The organizers are committed to adhering to the scheduled times as closely as possible to ensure everyone has a chance to partake in the festivities. This event is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy the holiday spirit, and make lasting memories. The Lower Moreland community looks forward to welcoming everyone for a safe and enjoyable holiday season!

A Series on Managing The Holiday Season

TIP 44: Learn to Decline Invitations

While Christmas is a season of joy and festivities, it's unrealistic to attend every holiday event like white elephant parties, ornament exchanges, and cookie-decorating gatherings.

It's essential to be realistic about your capabilities and politely decline when things become overwhelming. Rather than trying to fit in numerous parties, choose just one or two that matter the most. Prioritize your family's time and commit only to events that genuinely interest you. Remember, the holiday season should be about quality experiences, not just the quantity of events attended.

🏈 Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles, experiencing a two-game losing streak marked by significant defeats, are confronting a critical juncture in their season. Head Coach Nick Sirianni addressed the situation, indicating that while the team is keenly aware of their recent underperformance, they do not intend to make any drastic changes to their core identity or strategy.

Sirianni acknowledged the need for introspection and improvement following the consecutive blowout losses, which are the first such back-to-back defeats since 2015 and two of the worst during quarterback Jalen Hurts' tenure as a starter. The losses, against key NFC rivals San Francisco and Dallas, have highlighted areas where the Eagles need to refocus and refine their approach.

🏒 Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers, under the guidance of Daniel Briere and the coaching of John Tortorella, are demonstrating a commitment to their rebuild while also showing promising performance on the ice. Despite their recent successes, the focus remains on building a strong foundation for the future.

Three prospects who could be valuable additions to the Flyers and align with their current goals include:

  1. Kent Johnson: A highly skilled forward known for his creativity and offensive prowess. Johnson's playmaking ability and vision on the ice could complement the Flyers' need for dynamic offensive talent.

  2. Logan Stankoven: A promising young player with a knack for scoring and a strong work ethic. Stankoven's energy and scoring potential could be a great fit for a team looking to bolster its offensive depth.

  3. Philip Broberg: A defenseman known for his skating ability and defensive reliability. Broberg could provide the Flyers with a solid presence on the blue line, contributing to both their defensive structure and transition game.

🏀 Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers have been making steady progress in the NBA standings, leveraging a relatively easier part of their schedule to solidify their position. After a significant matchup against the Boston Celtics earlier in December, which had implications for playoff seeding, the Sixers have maintained a strong performance.

As of the last update, the Sixers' record stands at an impressive 16-7, an improvement from their previous 12-6 record. This progress highlights the team's consistent performance and ability to capitalize on the opportunities presented by their schedule. Despite this improvement, they remain in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. However, they are very close to climbing higher, being just half a game behind the second-place Milwaukee Bucks and currently tied with the Orlando Magic.
