Storm Bringing 2-3 Inches of Rain to Huntingdon Valley, Flooding Possible

Residents in Huntingdon Valley are advised to prepare for a significant weather event, as forecasters predict 2-3 inches of rain starting Sunday morning or afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, warning of potential flooding. This caution is particularly pertinent given the recent rainfall that has not been fully absorbed in areas with poor drainage and near small creeks and streams.

The heavy rain is expected to continue through Monday afternoon, and it will be accompanied by strong wind gusts.

  • Sunday Night: Expect windy conditions with rain, possibly heavy at times. Flooding in some areas and difficult travel conditions are likely. Wind gusts could reach 39 mph with about 2 inches of rain.

  • Monday: Rain is mainly anticipated before 1 pm, with the potential for heavy rainfall. The high temperature will be near 58 degrees, and it will remain breezy. The chance of precipitation is around 90%.

  • Monday Night: The weather will likely be mostly cloudy with a low around 32 degrees and continued breezy conditions.

Given these forecasts, residents should be prepared for potentially hazardous conditions, including areas of flooding and difficult travel due to reduced visibility and heavy rainfall. Flight delays might also occur due to the adverse weather conditions.

L.M. Police Nab Two in Connection with Theft from Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center

The Lower Moreland Township Police Department has successfully apprehended two individuals, Alvis Estevez German and Kelvin Belliard Estevez, both 34 years old from Philadelphia, in connection with an attempted theft case. The arrest follows an incident involving a tanker truck linked to a recent theft investigation.

On October 7, patrolling officers in the area of the Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center noticed a suspicious-looking tanker truck without a registration plate. Upon making contact with the occupants of the truck, officers recognized the company logo on the vehicle, which had been involved in a previous theft case.

Alvis Estevez German was identified as the front right passenger, while Kelvin Belliard Estevez, the driver, was recognized by the officers as the owner of a van implicated in a prior incident. Further investigations revealed that the company owning the truck had suffered an estimated oil loss of $2,515.05 over an eight-month period.

Both individuals were arrested for attempted theft and possession of instruments of crime, marking a significant development in the police department's efforts to address theft in the area.

Bradley Cooper Returns to Roots with New Home Purchase in Bucks County

Bradley Cooper, the acclaimed actor and a native of Jenkintown/Abington, has reportedly made a significant real estate purchase in Bucks County. Cooper has apparently bought a home in New Hope, Bucks County. This new acquisition is said to be in proximity to a $4 million horse farm owned by the mother of his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, a renowned model and television personality.

Gigi Hadid, who achieved the accolade of International Model of the Year in 2016 from the British Fashion Council, has her own connections to the area. She previously purchased a farmhouse near New Hope with her ex, Zayn Malik, a former member of One Direction. However, it is currently unclear if Hadid still owns this property following their split in 2021.

New Hope is known for its appealing attributes including low taxes, historic architecture, and a vibrant community featuring galleries, restaurants, and shops. It also boasts scenic attractions such as a river promenade, a steam railroad, and a playhouse located in an old mill, making it a desirable location for residence and leisure.

🏈 Eagles

Avonte Maddox, cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been out for most of the season with a torn pectoral. Originally expected to miss the entire season, there's now speculation about a possible return as the playoffs near. This comes as former Eagle C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who suffered a similar injury, has been cleared to return to practice with the Detroit Lions. Maddox's potential comeback could be a significant boost for the Eagles' struggling defense.

🏒 Flyers

Samuel Ersson impressively filled in for an ill Carter Hart, contributing to the Philadelphia Flyers' 16th season win. While Bobby Brink's shootout winner was notable, the game also highlighted the team's strong goaltending. Hart has a solid 9-6-1 record with a 2.42 GAA and a .919 SV%, including 10 quality starts. Ersson's performance underscores the Flyers' reliable goaltending depth.

🏀 Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers have extended the contract of Daryl Morey, their president of basketball operations, through the 2027-28 season. Morey, who previously managed the Houston Rockets, joined the 76ers in 2020 and has since led the team to win 65.3% of their games. With a career win percentage of 62.4%, he ranks fourth in NBA history among executives with over 1,000 games. His teams have never had a losing season. 76ers managing partner Josh Harris praised Morey's leadership and expressed enthusiasm for the extension.
