Several Road Safety Warnings Issued yesterday in the area amidst Flooding

Several roadways in the area experienced flooding, leading to hazardous conditions for drivers yesterday. Most roads have been cleared and reopened, except for a few which remain affected by flooding. The Lower and Upper Moreland police department urged drivers to exercise caution and strictly adhere to road barricades.

Notably, there were successful water rescue operations conducted due to the flooding. One such rescue occurred at around 5:19 am on Monday, December 18, at the intersection of Byberry Road and Pioneer Road in Lower Moreland Township. A driver who had moved to the roof of their vehicle amidst fast-moving water was rescued by emergency responders. The response teams included Squad 11, Quint 10, Bucks Rescue 90, and several medic units. It was reported that the vehicle had driven around downed barricades.

Another water rescue took place at the intersection of S. York Road and S. Warminster Road in Upper Moreland Township, with multiple squads and a medic unit responding.

Cold Weather Emergency Declared in Montgomery County, New Threshold Set

Montgomery County has issued a Code Blue cold weather emergency effective now until December 24 at 9:00 am. This declaration comes in response to Accuweather’s forecast, which predicts low to high temperatures in the 20s during this period, with no precipitation expected.

In a significant policy change, the Montgomery County Commissioners have revised the criteria for Code Blue declarations. Now, a Code Blue will be activated when overnight temperatures or wind chill fall at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit for a duration of two hours or more. This is a change from the previous threshold of 20 degrees.

The new threshold will allow for more Code Blue Shelters to be activated, thereby providing better safety standards for those without homes during cold weather conditions. Residents seeking general information about cold weather in Montgomery County can visit the county's official website for resources and guidance.

Police Advise Vigilance Amidst Increasing Scams in Lower Southampton

The Lower Southampton Police Department is alerting residents to be cautious of several scams that have been recently reported in the area. The department has investigated various types of fraudulent activities, highlighting two specific scams that residents should be particularly aware of.

  1. Cryptocurrency Scam: This scam targets Russian and Ukrainian residents, where scammers contact them and persuade them to invest in Bitcoin cryptocurrency, promising significant returns. The police advise residents never to send money for investments without thoroughly verifying the identity of the person and the legitimacy of the business involved in the transaction.

  2. Gift Card Scam: A nationwide scam involves individuals placing what seem to be legitimate gift cards from brands like Visa and Apple on racks in major retail stores. Once a customer buys and activates one of these gift cards, the scammers receive a notification and immediately spend the funds, leaving the purchaser with a worthless card. To avoid falling victim to this scam, the police recommend purchasing gift cards from online retailers or from local stores where gift card racks are not openly accessible to the public.

These scams are sophisticated and designed to deceive unsuspecting individuals. Always exercise caution and vigilance, especially when dealing with investment opportunities or purchasing gift cards. Learn more here.

A Series on Managing The Holiday Season

TIP 47: Get plenty of sleep and movement.

To combat anxiety and maintain health during the holidays, focus on getting adequate sleep and staying physically active. Instead of late-night movie marathons, prioritize rest to keep stress, anxiety, and immune health in check. Engage in outdoor activities, regardless of the cold, to help your body manage stress hormones. Simple activities like walking to see Christmas lights, visiting a Christmas tree farm or hiking are great ways to stay active.

🏈 Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their third consecutive loss, falling 20-17 to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night after relinquishing a fourth-quarter lead. Drew Lock's late touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba sealed the victory for the Seahawks.

This defeat continues the Eagles' long-standing struggle against the Seahawks, with their last victory dating back to 2008. They have yet to secure a win against a team coached by Pete Carroll.

In the losing effort, Jalen Hurts, who played despite being ill, contributed two rushing touchdowns for the Eagles.

🏒 Flyers

In the current NHL season, while teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers are facing challenges, others like the Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers are performing strongly. For those less familiar with the Philadelphia Flyers, they are exceeding expectations this season. According to Darren Dreger, the Flyers are open to trade offers for players in all positions, but they are focused on deals that will strengthen their foundation for future success.

🏀 Sixers

Heading into their game against the Chicago Bulls, the Philadelphia 76ers initially had no players listed on the injury report. However, this changed when Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP, was added as questionable due to hamstring tightness.

As is typical when Embiid is questionable, he planned to participate in warm-ups to assess his condition before a final decision on his playing status was made.

Just before the game's tip-off, it was confirmed that Embiid would indeed play against the Bulls. Despite having to sit out several fourth quarters recently, Embiid has been actively involved in the Sixers' packed schedule, which included four games in just six days, featuring a home/road back-to-back the previous Friday and Saturday.
