Wet Weather Ahead: Heavy Rain Forecast from Wednesday to Friday

The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain beginning early Wednesday morning, and possibly continuing in a lighter form until Friday, December 29.

Up to 1.5 inches could fall, forecasters said, though the rain will not be accompanied by the strong winds from December’s previous storms. Wednesday Rain, mainly after 7 a.m. Areas of fog before 1pm. High near 55. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday night Rain, mainly before 1 a.m. Patchy fog before 1am. Low around 46. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Thursday A chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Upper Moreland Police Report Surge in Scams Against the Elderly

The Upper Moreland Police Department, along with neighboring departments, is alerting the public to a recent increase in scams targeting the elderly, specifically the "Grandparent Scam." On December 26, a Bucks County resident was defrauded of $18,000 through this scam.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been warning families about such scams, which often involve impersonators claiming to be grandchildren in need of urgent financial assistance. These scams have evolved to use artificial intelligence technology for voice mimicry, making them more convincing.

In one incident in Upper Moreland, an elderly resident received a phone call claiming a relative had been arrested and required bail money. The resident agreed to pay and subsequently handed over $20,000 in cash to an unknown individual who arrived at their home. This scammer was able to use a nickname for the victim, which they likely obtained from a Facebook video featuring the victim and their relative.

Fortunately, the relative was later confirmed to be safe at home, and the incident was identified as a scam. However, the financial loss had already occurred.

Culinary Star Chad Rosenthal Debuts Rosey’s in Ambler post Bánh Street Closure

Chad Rosenthal, the acclaimed chef behind Bánh Street, is set to open a new establishment, Rosey’s, in Ambler. This new venture comes after the closure of the original Bánh Street, a Vietnamese-style sandwich shop in Abington Township, which shut its doors in August 2021 due to the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Located at 58 East Butler Avenue, Rosey’s aims to bring a refreshed version of the beloved Bánh Street experience to the Ambler community. Chef Rosenthal, known for his expertise and recognition in the culinary world, has made appearances on several television shows. His achievements include appearances on Food Network Star (on two occasions), Chopped Grill Masters, and Beat Bobby Flay, where he triumphed. He has also featured on Good Morning America and other local and national programs.

TODAY is… National Fruitcake Day, is a tribute to the often-misunderstood dessert: fruitcake. This dense and rich delicacy combines dried fruits, nuts, and sugar, typically soaked in alcohol like brandy or bourbon.
