From the Lower Moreland Township Police Department: "armed subject” identified

On December 4, 2023, police officers were dispatched to the Wawa store at 2500 Philmont Avenue, Huntingdon Valley in response to reports of an "armed subject." Initial information from Montgomery County Dispatch described the individual as a white male in a black shirt and jeans, allegedly armed with a bat.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a large group engaged in an argument outside the Wawa, pointing towards a man identified as Armand Xhelo. It was reported that Xhelo was the driver responsible for an earlier accident at the location and was threatening others involved.

Xhelo reacted combatively when approached by the police, attempting to reach into his front right pants pocket and resisting arrest. He grabbed onto his vehicle's roof rack to avoid being handcuffed and kicked at the officers, even dislodging a taser from one of their hands. After a struggle, Xhelo was eventually handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.

While in custody, Xhelo continued to act aggressively, kicking the interior of the patrol car window in an attempt to break it and remaining uncooperative with the officers.

First responders from the McKinley, Weldon, and Rockledge fire companies swiftly arrived at the scene to conduct the rescue.

The emergency teams worked diligently to extract the trapped individuals from the wrecked vehicle. After being safely removed, the occupants were provided with immediate medical attention by the Second Alarmer's Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County. This collaborative effort between multiple local emergency services ensured prompt care and assistance for those involved in the crash.
