Secure Your Online Sales at Lower Moreland's Protected Meetup Location

The Lower Moreland Police Department has introduced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the safety of online transactions for its residents. A designated "Safe Internet Sales Meetup Location" has been established, conveniently situated in the driveway of the Police Department, nestled between the Police and Fire Department buildings. This initiative encourages community members to conduct their internet-arranged sales at this secure location, marked by a clearly visible sign.

Residents interested in utilizing this safe exchange spot are directed to arrange their online sales meetings at 640 Red Lion Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Upon arriving, they should park near the sign and contact the station at 215-947-3132 to inform a police clerk, who will then monitor the area through surveillance cameras. This service is available from 7:00am to 10:30pm from Monday to Friday, and from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays, ensuring transactions are conducted under the watchful eye of the police department's monitoring system. The presence of officers will be ensured only if anything out of the ordinary is observed during the transaction, providing an added layer of security for those involved in internet sales.

Don't Fall for Fake Calls: PECO's Guide Against Spoofing Scams

PECO has issued an alert to its customers about a rising trend in "spoofing" scams, where fraudsters manipulate caller IDs to mimic PECO's official number, tricking individuals into believing they owe an immediate payment. These scammers often demand payment through unconventional methods, such as gift cards. To safeguard against these deceptive tactics, PECO offers several guidelines:

  • PECO emphasizes that it will never request immediate payment over the phone, especially not through methods like Bitcoin or gift cards.

  • Customers are advised to verify their account status directly through their printed bills, PECO's online platform, or its mobile application, rather than relying on unsolicited communications.

  • It's crucial to refrain from sharing account details with anyone whose identity cannot be independently confirmed. Genuine PECO representatives will have access to your account information, including your name, address, and balance due.

  • Instead of providing payment information over the phone, customers should independently log into their PECO account to make any updates or payments.

  • In the event of receiving any suspicious calls, texts, emails, or visits from individuals claiming to represent PECO, customers are urged to contact PECO directly at 800-494-4000 to report the incident. Additionally, any suspicious activity should also be reported to law enforcement authorities.

Billions Waiting to be Claimed: Pennsylvania's Unclaimed Property Day.

Pennsylvania is calling on its residents to check if they are among the millions of Americans entitled to a share of billions of dollars in unclaimed property. Marked as Unclaimed Property Day, this initiative aims to reunite individuals with their lost or forgotten assets.

Statistics from the National Association of State Treasurers reveal that one in seven Americans possesses unclaimed property, ranging from dormant bank accounts to uncashed paychecks and unreturned utility deposits. In the past year alone, about $3 billion was reclaimed, with individual claims averaging around $2,080.

The Pennsylvania treasury reports a staggering $4 billion in unclaimed assets within the state, affecting one in ten residents. The National Association of State Treasurers encourages everyone to take a moment to search for potential unclaimed property, which could include anything from monetary funds to valuables previously overlooked or unknown.

To initiate a search in Pennsylvania, you can check PA’s treasury website or utilize MissingMoney.com, a free service endorsed for property recovery. These platforms guide users through identifying and claiming their unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property encompasses a wide array of assets beyond the commonly known bank accounts. This includes stocks, bonds, insurance proceeds, dividends, uncashed checks, refunds, and even gift certificates, which may become lost due to company changes such as closures or mergers.

Assets become classified as unclaimed after a period of inactivity, leading businesses to attempt reconnection with the rightful owners. Failing this, the assets are handed over to the state, waiting to be claimed back by their owners.

To prevent assets from becoming unclaimed, the association advises keeping financial accounts active, updating personal information with institutions, maintaining records of transactions, and sharing account details with a trusted individual, ensuring continuity and claimability of assets.
