Huntingdon Valley Man Arrested for Assault and Resisting Arrest

The Lower Moreland Police Department has made an arrest following a domestic disturbance in Huntingdon Valley. Jonathan Leiberman, 36, faces charges of simple assault, physical harassment, and resisting arrest after an incident that unfolded on Friday, February 2, around 3:30 pm. The altercation occurred at a residence on the 1400 block of Dogwood Lane, where officers were called to address a report of a physical fight between two males.

Upon their arrival, police encountered a victim who exhibited a red mark on the left side of their face and two small lacerations on the bridge of their nose. The victim recounted that a verbal dispute with Leiberman escalated into a physical confrontation. When officers engaged with Leiberman, who was found in a bedroom, he exhibited suspicious behavior by attempting to reach for the drawer of his nightstand. Despite police instructions to refrain from opening any drawers, Leiberman responded with yelling and aggressive movements, leading to a struggle as he resisted arrest.

The situation required the intervention of three officers to subdue Leiberman, culminating in his arrest on charges including resisting arrest, attempted simple assault, and harassment. This incident underscores the police department's commitment to addressing and de-escalating domestic disturbances to ensure community safety.

Hatboro's Iconic Gamburg's Property Future Uncertain Amidst Downtown Redevelopment

In Hatboro, the iconic Gamburg's Furniture sign, a beacon for nearly a century, still illuminated the night sky on a recent Saturday, despite the store's closure in November. This has sparked a flurry of speculation among residents on "The Real Voices of Hatboro" Facebook page about the future of the property. While some wonder if the building will be demolished or if it has been a target of vandalism, others are concerned about the visual impact of the boarded-up structure on the downtown business district, drawing parallels with the nearby long-dormant CVS property.

The CVS site on South York Road recently received approval under the borough's mixed-use Town Center Ordinance, marking a step forward in its development. Similarly, the Canalley Property at 21-23 & 37 N. York Road was granted conditional use approval, with further steps pending before final approval. These developments indicate a trend towards revitalizing properties for mixed residential and retail use.

However, the future of the Gamburg's site remains uncertain. Despite the closure announcement and retirement of the Gamburg's owners last August after 94 years, no applications for the property's redevelopment have been filed with the borough. Officials have assured that any future proposals will undergo a thorough review process, offering the public opportunities to voice their opinions.

This situation reflects broader changes in Hatboro, where a new mixed-use ordinance could transform York Road's landscape, allowing for taller buildings and apartments. As the community waits for news on the Gamburg's site, the ongoing developments underscore the town's evolving approach to urban planning and development, balancing growth with preserving the character of the downtown district.
