Armed Robbery in Abington Township: Suspect Pleads Guilty

A Philadelphia man, Darryl C. Brothers, aged 35, has admitted guilt to serious charges of robbery and illegal firearm possession following a June 2023 armed robbery at an Abington Township 7-Eleven.

Brothers is now facing a potential prison term ranging from three and a half to seven years. The incident unfolded on June 29, 2023, when Abington police were alerted to a robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 1937 Old York Road. 

A store employee recounted the harrowing experience of a man who, brandishing a handgun, demanded cash from the register. The robber, wielding a black handgun and clutching a white plastic bag, instructed the employee to deposit the money into the bag he provided. Escaping with approximately $100, Brothers fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a shaken but unharmed employee. 

Quick Response Averts Tragedy in Wyndmoor House Fire

Yesterday, a collaborative effort from multiple fire companies swiftly addressed a house fire in Wyndmoor. The Flourtown Fire Company, Oreland Fire Company, and Wyndmoor Fire Department were called to the scene at the 800 block of Church Road at 6:30 am. Upon arrival, firefighters made a forced entry into the home and promptly managed to put out the fire, which had erupted in a bedroom. Remarkably, there were no injuries reported among the homeowner or the first responders at the scene.

The operation was notably efficient, with Flourtown’s Ladder 6 arriving first and taking on the initial response duties typically reserved for an engine company. The crew utilized a 1-3/4” hoseline to gain entry and extinguish the fire, successfully bringing the situation under control within 20 minutes. This incident also saw support from the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler, Springfield Township Police Department, and Weldon Fire Company, showcasing a strong sense of community and teamwork among the emergency services.

From Maple Syrup to Farm-to-Table: Wyncote Academy's Community Feast

Wyncote Academy, located in Elkins Park, is gearing up for its third annual Whiskey & Waffle event this Sunday, February 25, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at 7827 Old York Road.
