Abington Township Witnesses Weekend of Firefighting Efforts Across Multiple Locations

Over the weekend, Abington Township witnessed a series of fires that prompted responses from multiple firefighting units across several locations, including a commercial establishment and residential buildings.

The first incident occurred at the Abington Smoke Shop located in the Roslyn section of Abington Township. A fire, sparked by a dryer in Apartment 44 on the second floor of 1342 Easton Road, was promptly extinguished by responding crews.

Another fire was reported at the Korman Residential Apartments at 1700 Huntingdon Pike. The details of the incident were not specified, but the presence of multiple units suggests a significant firefighting effort.

The McKinley Fire Company of Elkins Park was also called into action for a fire alarm at the Meadowbrook Apartments in Huntingdon Valley. A smoke condition detected in the lower-level gym area led to an upgraded response, and Squad 200’s crew, alongside the Abington Assistant Fire Marshal, discovered an active fire within the walls. Efforts included the use of a hand line to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading, with additional crews readying a second line and conducting ventilation and searches to ensure the building's safety.

These incidents saw collaboration among various fire departments and units, including Abington Township Fire Department – Fire Marshals, Abington Fire Company, Weldon Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, Roslyn Fire Company, Rockledge Fire Company, Fight Jenkintown Fires (Jenkintown FD), Huntingdon Valley Fire Company, Bryn Athyn Fire Company, Wyndmoor Fire Department, Second Alarmer’s Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County, and the Abington Township Police Dept., PA, highlighting the community's coordinated response to emergency situations.

Bucks County Man Arrested for Assaulting Parents and Taunting Police Dog with Hammer

In a disturbing incident in Bucks County, a man was arrested after assaulting his parents and then engaging in a standoff with police while armed with a hammer. The event unfolded on Wisteria Drive in Warrington, where police were called to the scene around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, February 24. The assailant, identified as 52-year-old Michael P. Bowen, Jr., had initially attacked his mother by covering her face and shoving her, causing her glasses to fall off. When his father attempted to intervene, Bowen escalated the situation by assaulting him as well, ultimately arming himself with a claw hammer and threatening both parents with death.

The situation took a further turn when Bowen, refusing to surrender, hid in a basement closet. Warrington officers, along with K-9 unit "Jolie," located and extracted Bowen from his hiding spot. Despite being cornered, Bowen resisted arrest, attempting to kick the officers and taunt the police dog, an act classified as a third-degree felony in Pennsylvania.

Following the altercation, Bowen was taken to police headquarters, where he continued to exhibit aggressive behavior by repeatedly kicking the cell door. During his arraignment, the magistrate set his bail at $75,000 (10%), leading to his remand to the Buck County Correctional Facility due to his inability to post bail. Further investigation revealed that Bowen had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Upper Moreland Township Police Department, complicating his legal troubles.
