Local Students Pave the Way to State Finals in Transportation Design Challenge

A group of innovative students from Lower Moreland High School recently achieved regional victory in the seventh annual PennDOT Innovations Challenge. This prestigious state competition encourages high schoolers to propose inventive solutions for real-world transportation problems.

This year's challenge focused on reimagining a section of roadway that had disrupted a local neighborhood, leading to displacement of residents and businesses. The students were tasked with crafting a design that accommodates bike and pedestrian traffic, fosters community reconnection, encourages new business opportunities, and maintains efficient vehicle flow. With their successful regional win, the team is now set to compete in the state finals, as announced by PennDOT.

Upper Moreland School District Board Expands with New Member, Unveils Digital Overhaul

The Upper Moreland School District has warmly welcomed Mr. Grant Rounds as the latest addition to its Board of School Directors. This announcement, shared through a heartfelt Facebook post, reflects the district's gratitude towards its supportive community, diligent staff, and dedicated board members. Alongside this significant appointment, the district is gearing up for the launch of its revamped website and a brand new mobile app set to be unveiled on Thursday, March 28.

Aimed at enhancing communication, the new digital platforms promise to keep parents, students, and community members well-informed about district activities. The app, in particular, is poised to become an essential tool for accessing the latest announcements, event schedules, meal menus, and important documents directly from smartphones. The transition to these modernized resources underscores the district's commitment to leveraging technology for community engagement and information sharing.

Upper Moreland Police Crack Down on DUI, Theft, and Traffic Violations in Recent Arrests

The Upper Moreland Township Police Department has recently announced details surrounding four arrests made for various offenses, highlighting the department's ongoing efforts to ensure community safety. The incidents, ranging from DUI to shoplifting, underscore the diverse nature of challenges faced by law enforcement.

Michael Bowen, a 52-year-old resident of Willow Grove, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and several motor vehicle violations after being involved in a crash between his bicycle and a vehicle. Bowen, found to be impaired while bicycling and disobeying traffic signals, later escalated to violence, assaulting his parents and menacing police officers and a K-9 unit with a hammer.

In another incident, Emmerson Slotterback, 45, also from Willow Grove, was detained for operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock device. The arrest followed a traffic stop initiated due to vehicle violations.

Ralph Brown, a 60-year-old from Philadelphia, was apprehended for shoplifting $115 worth of goods from a 5 Below store in Willow Grove. The arrest also led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and stolen items from other areas in his possession.

Lastly, Brandon Smith, 24, of Telford, was taken into custody for attempting to return stolen merchandise to an Auto Zone store in Willow Grove. Smith's actions were part of a coordinated effort with another individual to defraud the store.
